Shorts Group celebrates 50th Anniversary in style!

Well respected for quality and service, Shorts Group more than lived up to its reputation when it celebrated its 50th anniversary in business. This momentous celebration was held in the ballroom at the luxurious Ascot Race Course on a warm September Friday night. Guests to the black-tie affair were greeted at the entrance by the company’s managing director, Gary Short, son of Shorts Group Founder, David Short. Gary and his wife Michelle personally greeted each of the almost 300 customers, suppliers and employees as they entered the ballroom.

The highlight of the evening was a touching review of the birth and growth of the company from a keen idea in David Short’s mind back in 1957, through its development from Shorts Timber Services through its further expansion as Shorts Group.
As the dinner plates were cleared away and the guests tucked into their dessert, Gary Short took to the podium to express his thanks – and that of his family – to the many customers, suppliers and employees on hand who have helped make Shorts Group a success. Gary made special mention of several long-serving employees and suppliers including Martin Costello, Gavin Bartlett, Steve Meade, Ray Handy and Peter Arnold, whose commitment and dedication to Shorts Group has been so strong for so many years.
The big surprise of the party was the crowd-pleasing performance of the Coldstream Guards military band.
The big surprise of the night was a visit from Berkshire neighbours, the Coldstream Guards military band. They marched into the ballroom to the welcoming applause of the awestruck guests. The horns and drums belted out a lively and entertaining repertoire of British songs. As the band completed its set and marched out of the room, the guests were on their feet with applause.

As the evening drew to a close, it was clear that Shorts Group has a very special relationship with its customers and employees. This close relationship is clearly the result of many years of diligent work, attention to detail and a commitment to providing quality services.
